In Smile you can use AppleScript's
built-in computational features. AppleScript is easy to use, it can natively write and read binary as well as ASCII files. AppleScript makes a convenient framework to perform calculations when arrays do not exceed a few hundred items. In the chapter below we recall the main information about computing in AppleScript.
To perform extensive computations you must use Smile's own set of computational features, which are fast and reliable for handling arrays of arbitrarily large sizes.
Specific or advanced computational needs are addressed by various means, thanks to the openness of AppleScript with respect to external codes.
